Beauty pageants have no shortage of drama. These women put in years of hard work - all for a title, a scholarship, and a year of fame - as one of the most beautiful women in the state, country, or world.

But for some women, that didn't last. And as we have seen in the case of Jannatul Nayeem, the whole experience can be upsetting. Jannatul Nayeem, declared Miss Word Bangladesh 2017 at first, was stripped of the title on Wednesday on fraud charges.

Here are some beauty pageant contestants who were dethroned while they were reigning beauty queens. They may have been the fairest of them all, but life isn't.

Leona Gage, was Miss USA, 1957. According to an article in Refinery29, Gage lied about her age (she was 18 and said she was 21) and her personal life (she was once divorced, remarried, and the mother of two children). As a result, she was stripped of her crown less than 24 hours after being named Miss USA. After losing the money, and her title, Gage attempted an acting career, and went on to be married four more times.

Marjorie Wallace was Miss World, 1973. According to Refinery29, she was stripped imeediately after being the first American to win the Miss World title, reports surfaced that she was dating two men at once - a Welsh singer, and a British soccer player. Unfortunately, that behavior was not supported by the pageant officials. As a result, about three months into being Miss World, Wallace was stripped of her crown. Three months after that she overdosed on pills. A few years later, in 1981, she became one of the first anchors on Entertainment Tonight.

Gabriella Brum was Miss World, 1980. A report of Style Yetu said the German beauty queen won the 1980 Miss World beauty pageant but resigned the next day. She said it was due to pressure from a disapproving boyfriend but it turns out she had posed nude in a magazine. Brum later posed in Playboy.

Vanessa Williama, was Miss America 1983. Style Yetu reports, the Ugly Betty Star was 25 when she made history being crowned the first African-American Miss America. Ten months following her crowning, arty nude photos of her taken back in 1982 were all over the pages of September’s 1984 issue of Penthouse magazine. The Miss America pageant board asked Williams to resign her post. She soon after started a singing career, and later branched out into acting, with great success even getting Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award nominations. And finally thirty-two years after resigning as Miss America, the current CEO of the Miss America Organization, Sam Haskell, offered Williams a public apology at the beginning of the Miss America 2016 pageant (where she was serving as head judge) for what was said to her in 1984.

Oxana Fedorova from Russia was Miss Universe 2002. Style Yetu report said the first Miss Russia to win the title of Miss Universe, Fedorova was a law student at the time of her Miss Universe win. She was very busy with school, too busy to keep up with the rigorous travel schedule that she was required to comply with, hence stripped of her crown, making her the first time in Miss Universe’s history that they removed a woman who had the crown. However rumor was she was dethroned because she had put on weight.

Carrie Prejean was Miss USA 2009. Style Yetu report said she first stirred up controversy as a conservative Christian when she spoke against same-sex marriage. That did not go down well with judge/blogger Perez Hilton. When semi-nude photos of her surfaced online, her contract from the Miss California pageant was terminated due to what the organisers termed as breach-of-contract issues. It turns out that K2 Productions, which produced the Miss California pageant had lent Prejean thousands of dollars for breast implants. It was further alleged that she was dethroned due to missing public appearances. She later published a 2009 memoir and went on to wed Oakland Raiders player Kyle Boller in July 2010, and gave birth to their first child, Grace, in May 2011.

Kristhielee Caride of Puerto Rico was 2016 Miss Universe. A report of Style Yetu said when Kristhielee Caride, 24, Puerto Rico’s 2016 Miss Universe winner in March that year told a Puerto Rican newspaper: “I just do not like cameras” and went ahead to cancel press events. She was then stripped of her crown. Desiree Lowry, the national director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico, said, “You always have to put your best face forward. … It’s a given that we are going to be in front of cameras and that we have to answer all types of questions."
