Qaqa Wastes No Time In Her Preparation

Newly-crowned TFL Miss Fiji queen Hally Qaqa’s only day of rest was yesterday.

She is determined to prepare for the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant and continue the legacy of Fiji winning the crown.

The 23-year-old beauty queen, Miss Nasinu, was crowned on Saturday night at Suva’s Thurston Gardens.

Miss Pacific Islands Pageant will be held at Prince Charles Park in Nadi from December 2 to 9.

“I start my preparations tomorrow (Monday). I need to prepare for the Pacific Pageant because it is a bigger platform,” Ms Qaqa said.

“I need to prepare myself well to keep the crown at home. We are the reigning traditional attire and research topic holders as well and we have to ensure that we retain and bring more titles home,” she said.

“Anne Dunn reigning Pacific Pageant queen has set a benchmark of bringing the crown home.”

Miss Qaqa, the sixth of 11 siblings, a former Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionary, is currently pursuing her degree in Human Physiology and Anatomy with the University of California through distance learning.

Her mother, Unaisi Liwaiono Qaqa, 55, of Nacomoto, Naceva, Kadavu, proud of her daughter’s achievements as all pageants were exciting for everyone, especially the family.

“We were very proud of her advocacy message which was about family for we believe in family values. I am grateful that she went out there and showed people that family is very important,” Mrs Qaqa said.

Mrs Qaqa was at a family funeral on Saturday when her daughter was preparing for the big night on. She travelled back to Suva hoping to see her daughter’s crowning ceremony.

“She now has big shoes to fill into and the pressure will be there on her but I told her to enjoy and give her best. The winner will be one person but everybody is a winner in their respective places.

“When my daughters decide to get into the pageant, the whole family gets excited and we know that they will nail it. I didn’t get into any pageant but I knew my daughters will and they make me proud.”

Ms Qaqa’s older sister Sukannika, was a 2015 Miss World Fiji finalist.
