ALL is set for the ceremonial renaming on Friday of Queen Street, Port of Spain, to “Queen Janelle Commissiong Street”.
The Office of the Mayor yesterday issued its advisory for the event, which will include a procession and cultural activities along the newly-named street.
The street is to be christened anew in honour of Commissiong's 1977 winning of the Miss Universe title, making her the first woman of colour to win the crown. She was also Trinidad and Tobago's first Miss Universe.
Friday's procession starts at 10 a.m. on Piccadilly Street, then along Queen Street and ending at Richmond Street, with a reception at Government Campus Plaza.
This will be followed by the official unveiling of the street sign.
The procession is to be led by Commissiong and members of the Port of Spain City Council.
There will be stops along Piccadilly Street, Nelson Street to George Street, Charlotte Street to Henry Street, Fredrick Street to Chacon Street, St. Vincent and Edward streets, ending at Richmond Street.
Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez will address the start of the procession.
At a City Council meeting earlier this month, Martinez said the corporation will be in intense preparation for Friday's event and this will include clean-ups in the capital and touch-ups to any infrastructure along the way.
