The stunning beauty started achieving big at a very early stage, she was announced the winner of the annual Gladrags Megamodel India competition and won the opportunity to represent the country at the international pageant and was later crowned Miss Intercontinental 1997.
Lara did not stop there she then participated in Femina Miss India contest, where she bagged the 1st pace and brought home the prestigious crown of Miss Universe 2000 by representing the country at the international pageant and making the entire nation proud. She also achieved the highest score in the swimsuit competition and her finale interview score was the highest individual score in any category in the history of the Miss Universe contest.
She is also the first beauty pageant winner from India to win the title of 'Miss Grand Slam 2000'. She is the second woman from India to be crowned Miss Universe, and has been the only delegate from India to win the crown since.
Lara made her debut in Bollywood in the year 2003 with the film Andaaz which was a box office success and won her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She starred in the movie along with Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
