Get to know the country's bet for Miss World 2017

MANILA, Philippines – Miss World 2017 Laura Lehmann completed the list of Filipino beauty queens representing the country in international pageants this year as she gets ready to compete in the Miss World pageant in Sanya, China in November. No newbie to the pageant scene, Laura first competed in Binibining Pilipinas 2014, where she was named first runner-up. She has since concentrated on hosting events and finishing her degree at Ateneo de Manila University.
Let's get to know Laura with these fun facts:
1. She is a sportscaster and travel host. After her runner-up finish in Bb. Pilipinas, Laura concentrated on sportscasting and hosting. She was the courtside reporter for the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season 77 and 78. She also worked as a sports anchor for ABS-CBN's Sports in Action channel before taking a leave to compete. She also hosted the lifestyle show Listed.
2. She was part of the Philippine softball team. On her Instagram account, Laura wrote about her debut as an anchor for the sport she used to play.
"My debut day as a UAAP Anchor. Had such an exciting and nostalgic time covering my first love – UAAP Softball. And with the greatest analyst too, [Riki Flores-Reyes]."
3. She also models. Laura appeared in a number print ads and modeled for several brands including Folded & Hung and Facial Care Centre.
4. She remains in contact with her Bb. Pilipinas 2014 sisters. In an interview with reporters after the pageant, Laura said that despite their busy schedules, she and her pageant sisters – Bianca Guidotti, Parul Shah, Kris Janson, Yvethe Santiago, Hannah Ruth Sison, and MJ Lastimosa have remained close. In fact, all of them were present at the pageant except for MJ, who is in the US.
"It's just another indication that pageantry solidifies friendships because as you can see it's been years but we're still in contact. They still watched this pageant, they still supported me," Laura said.

5. She's in a relationship. Laura has been dating former Ateneo Blue Eagle and now PBA player Von Pessumal. In an interview with ABS-CBN in 2015, Von said of Laura: "She’s super independent. She handles it all on her own...At this age, I think fellow young people are just starting to learn how to take care of themselves. But she’s been doing that all her life.”
6. Mark Bumgarner made her MWP finals gown. Mark, a favorite of actress Heart Evangelista, made Laura's gorgeous red gown for the finals. On Instagram, Laura shared how Mark encouraged her to have fun with the outfit.
"Besides designing my dress, he was always there to take care of me and to remind me to 'feel' my gown – to make sure it wasn't just a dress but rather a part of me when I walked. He also told me that the real secret was just to have fun – as everyone should," she said.

7. On winning the Miss Multimedia award. Laura nabbed one of the most important fast track challenges of the pageant: the multimedia challenge. During the competition, host KC Montero asked her about her views on the internet.

"Well I think that the internet has its pros and cons. I know that especially today, it’s been spreading a lot of negativity but I think at the end of the day, it’s a positive tool and we can use the internet and we can use social media for social good."
On Monday, September 4, Laura posted her thank you message to her supporters.
"I woke up this morning just like YOU – with my oversized pajamas, ripped blankets and two dogs beside me not believing someone as normal as me had a crown on her head. But when I took a moment to reflect, I realized instead that's the best thing about Miss World Philippines," she wrote.
"I joined this pageant because I truly believe in everything it stands for. [Miss World] reminds us all that the greatest beauty is that in giving, and I am so proud to be part of it. Maraming, maraming salamat po. Hindi ko po makilimutan ang gabi na to. Para sa bayan. (Thank you so much. I won't forget this night. This is for the country)," she continued.
