Awa Jammeh representing Gambia at ‘Miss Africa Calabar’

Beauty queen Awa Jammeh is flying The Gambia’s flag at “Miss Africa Calabar” pageant currently underway in Nigeria.

According to a release from Bima Entertainment, the pageant, one of the biggest annually held in Africa is themed on climate change this year.

“The rejuvenated beauty pageant brand is set to take the tourism and hospitality industry in Africa and the rest of the world by storm. As Miss Africa Calabar, Nigeria seeks to crown another beauty queen who will promote green economy a tool for sustainable development, whilst merging beauty with nature and a tenacious cause centered around creating the much-needed awareness on man’s direct and indirect impact on her environment. Thirty ladies between the ages of 18 and 25 years representing 40 African countries are participating. The eventual queen will be the African Ambassador on Climate Change and the African face and voice in creating awareness in the global fight against climate change. The event is sponsored and supported by the Cross River State Government,” the release explained.

The Gambia’s representative, Awa Jammeh from Bakau, has been steadily rising on the rungs of beauty contests and has won several crowns, one of the most outstanding of which is the Miss 22nd July 2014, Senior Secondary School category. She’s currently the Face of #Nnool an international brand.

Awa explains: “When I was 15 years In 2011, I started competing in beauty contests and the first contest I took part in was the “Face of Bakau” which I won. In 2013, I contested in the “Miss Bakau” pageant and won Miss Elegance and in the “Miss Nawettan Bakau” I became the second runner-up. In late 2013, I became the first runner-up for Miss Saint Joseph’s High School. In early 2014, I won Miss BCC and later the “Miss July 22nd” founded by the then president of the republic.”
Awa Jammeh is a multi-talented runway model, singer, dancer, much sought-after makeup artist, designer. She also writes songs and poems.
