Be true, be you and be a queen is the brief advice the reigning queens, Miss British Virgin Islands, Erika Creque and Miss BVI World, Kadia Turnbull, is giving to this year’s 2017 contenders of the Miss BVI pageant.

The pageant is set to go down tomorrow, August 6, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex. Six local beauties will vie for the crown and the prestigious title.

With their reigns now on the eve of their completion, the queens told BVI Platinum News that their year was well spent, but noted that in order to get to that point, you have to be the selected winner.

In a few tips, the queens stated that it is important to remain calm in the face of adversity and always keep your eyes on the prize.

Miss BVI World 2016, Kadia said, “Everything is not going to go according to plan, but keep your eyes on the goal and stay positive. You all are winners; it takes a lot to get on a stage to perform in a place like the BVI.”

Miss BVI 2016, Erika added, “Always put your best foot forward, do your best and don’t mind the noise. Always have fun; you can only be you, so always try to portray the best you.”

On their reigns, Kadia reminisced on her opportunity to represent the Territory at the Miss World Pageant in Washington DC, United States of America, in November 2016.

“It was an amazing experience getting to know other country ambassadors.”

She disclosed that the highlight of her trip was teaching some of the other 199 contestants the BVI heritage dance in the hallways of their hotel.

“So many friendships made, so many connections.”

Similarly, Erika expressed that she too had quite a time representing the BVI at the Miss Universe Pageant in the Philippines earlier this year, and at the Miss Jaycees Pageant just last week.

Their reigns were also spent working on their platforms.

“I conducted many sessions at schools, educating students about the importance of keeping the environment clean and on the three R’s---reuse, reduce and recycle,” said Miss BVI.

As for Kadia, she was instrumental in bringing a chapter of the US based organization---Depression and Bipolar Disorder Support Association (DBSA) to the BVI, with assistance from Dr. Virginia Rubaine.

“I’ve done a lot with my platform to bring awareness to the positive and negative side of depression and to educate persons on the issue.”

Both girls will give up their crowns at the pageant tomorrow evening.
