Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. on Tuesday kicked off the international pageant season with a grand send off for reigining queens, Elizabeth Clenci, Nelda Ibe, and Mariel De Leon.
Clenci will be representing the Philippines on the 2017 Miss Grand International at Phu Quoc, Vietnam on October 25th.
“Pilot Queen” Ibe will be flying to Tirana, Albania to represent the Philippines on the Miss Globe stage on November 3rd.
With the hope of a back-to-back victory, De Leon will be flying to Tokyo, Japan for the Miss International pageant, set for November 14th.
“I’ve seen them grown so much and they’ve grown even more amazing ... I can say 100% that they’re ready!” Their pagaent sister Miss Supranational Philippines 2017 Chanel Olive Thomas said at the send off in Novotel.
Clenci, who revealed that she plans on being the first Filipina to win the Miss Grand International crown, boosted her pageant sisters’ confidence with thoughtful messages.
“I’m honestly been so blessed that I got to know you these past few months,” Clenci told De Leon. “I am so honored to call you a sister and a friend. You are every inch an incredible woman.”
She also cheered for Ibe, who she shared has grown tremendously over the last few months.
“Good luck, Nelda, you’re going to be so amazing. I wish I could be there to cheer for you,” Clenci said.
Ibe returned the favor and predicted a win for Clenci, “I know you will make history!”
She added, “To Mariel, you’re the most genuine and sweet person I’ve ever met in the pageant world ... I know you will rock Japan!”
De Leon, for her part, shared not just messages, but sweet memories about Clenci and Ibe.
Despite her imposing stature and intimidating beauty, De Leon said that Ibe was one of the most approachable candidates during the Binibining Pilipinas pageant.
“Throughout the competition, you always made me feel like I could go up and talk to you,” De Leon said.
The opposite happened between her and Clenci. The pair’s first encounter was on a sofa, where they sat without looking at or speaking to each other.
“She thought I was suplada!” De Leon revealed. But, especially after spending more time as queens she and Clenci along with the other winners have developed a strong friendship.
“We’ve made a really strong bond [after the pageant] and I have new sisters now!” De Leon said.
The three queens are facing enormous pressure to perform just as well if not better than their predecessors, but they’re handling the stress with the grace expected of a true queen.
“This is our own individual journey and everyone can agree with me that we’re already winners because of how much we’ve grown. However, I am planning to be the first.,” Clenci told the press.
Ibe added, “We’ve been training a lot and Binibining Pilipinas was not that easy. We have to stay fit and stay mentally gorgeous! Hopefully God will grant us the crown.” — Aya Tantiangco/LA, GMA News
