ALEXANDRA – Boipelo recrowned Miss SA 1st runner-up.

The crowning of Boipelo Mabe as second runner-up with her mother Monnye Mabe.

The recent crowning of South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters as Miss Universe 2017, puts the country and local beauty pageants in a positive light and improves Alex’s image as well.

Until then, Nel-Peters was reigning Miss South Africa after her May victory with Ade van Heerden as first runner-up and Alex’s Boipelo Mabe second runner-up.

For Alexandrians, Nel-Peters’ global crowning in the beauty and brains contest held in Las Vegas, United States of America, is a further delight, as it doubles their daughter’s fortunes. It led to Boipelo’s re-crowning to first runner-up position with restructured packs, prestige and heightened glory after Van Heerden was elevated to SA queen at a ceremony held at Maslow Hotel, Sandton.

In an exclusive interview with Alex News, the unassuming Boipelo wished Nel-Peters all the success as a global representative. She also thanked South Africans for supporting them and producing quality and victorious beings who can compete on a global level.

Boipelo said the revised contract for the remaining six months of her tenure, adds more social upliftment tasks to her ambassadorial passion of promoting access to quality education for children in disadvantaged areas. The gruelling pre-crowning events forced her to suspend her master’s degree in international relations to allow her the time and space to pursue her passion.

“I want to bring hope, create in them a desire for a better life through education. [Being in beauty pageants means], we are role models to children in various ways and should help fulfil their basic and other needs with the assistance of sponsors,” she said.
“I urge them to have and commit to their dreams and aspirations and not let their personal or home circumstances define them and their potential.”

Boipelo draws from her studies to help simplify complex and confusing social and geopolitical issues impacting ordinary citizens and the youth, such as the importance of voting, holding the leadership accountable and the impact of international relations on their lives.

“They need more voices to help them understand and be interested in participating in shaping their democracy.”
Among others, she recently donated school shoes to Carter and Dr Knack primary schools in Alex and will conduct workshops and create movements for children on positive lifestyles, career guidance and improve their knowledge of international issues such as the unique issues facing different countries, and important global institutions.
