Bulgarian MEP Files Complaint Against the Miss Bulgaria Beauty Pageant

HEIDELBERG, GERMANY - Nikolay Barekov - a man who got famous for being one of the most cunning and ambitious television hosts and reporters, and is now a Member of the European Parliament filed a complaint against the Miss Bulgaria beauty pageant in the Bulgarian national prosecution. This information has been confirmed by the deputy state's prosecutor Asya Petrova.

Barekov's complaint will request from the State's Prosecution to forbid the use of the word "Bulgaria" as a brand in various contests, pageants and even political parties until there isn't a firm regulation by the Parliament as to who can use "Bulgaria" as a brand and under what circumstances. Barekov has even initiated a campaign among his fellow MEP's and is currently gathering signatures to file a demand to the European Commission to put regulation on beauty pageants in the EU.

Apart from that Barekov's complaint included a direct attack against the last Miss Bulgaria pageant. Barekov took the matter to his personal Facebook page and wrote: "If there have been violations of protocol, as we have been informed, then the pageant should be redone - according to its own rulebook. If not - it should be declared a private contest and should not be further associated with our nation." The lates Miss Bulgaria contest sparked a significant debate among many - public figures and "ordinary people" alike were all surprised by the jury's choice. The criticism surrounding Tamara Georgieva (the newly crowned Miss Bulgaria) had a lot to do with her choice. People were questioning her beauty and more specifically - her nose.

It goes without saying that beauty pageants have always set almost impossible beauty standards. One can only imagine how many girls have been left feeling uncomfortable with their body/hair/face because of the standards set by this "culture". However, now that a woman who doesn't quite fit the stereotype of a beauty pageant winner has appeared, people are quick to judge and go out with claims such as "there are many Bulgarian women more beautiful than she is". If that is true or not - it's up to every individual to decide. Wasting the State's Prosecution's time with complaints regarding a beauty contest - you're just desparate for attention.
