International elementary school teacher Im Ji Yeon will represent South Korea in Miss World 2019. She is the country’s 49th representative to compete in the international beauty pageant.
The teacher and beauty queen hails from Busan, the second most populous city in South Korea. The city is home to Haeundae Beach, Ilgwang Beach, Kiswire Museum, Jeonpo Cafe Street, Busan Citizens Park, Yongdusan Park, Millak Waterfront Park, Taejongdae, Gamcheon Cultural Village, Huinnyeol Culture Village, the Dongbaek island and the Haedong Yonggung temple.
On September 5, 2019, Im and 30 other candidates competed in the Miss Queen Korea 2019 coronation night, which was held at the Grand Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. She was crowned Miss World Korea 2019.
It was the second edition of Miss Queen Korea. In the same event, Lee Yeon Joo, 20, and Laura Whee Kwon were crowned Miss Universe Korea 2019 and Miss Korea Supranational 2019, respectively.
Im was crowned by Miss World Korea 2018 Bo Ah Cho. The latter did not place in the 68th edition of Miss World, which took place at the Sanya City Arena in Sanya, China on December 8, 2018.
Runner-up to Im as Miss World Korea 2019 was Park Ji Jeong. Lee Hwa Jin and No Gyu Oh were the respective second and third runners-up.
On December 14, 2019, Im will compete against more than 100 candidates from around the world for the Miss World 2019 title at the ExCeL London in London, England, United Kingdom. The successor of Miss World 2018 Vanessa Ponce, 27, of Mexico will be the 69th woman to hold the title.
If Im wins Miss World 2019, she will be the first ever titleholder of the international beauty pageant from her country. The best placement by a candidate from South Korea in Miss World was by Choi Yeon Hee, who was runner-up to Miss World 1988 Linda Petursdotti, 40, of Iceland.
