Lauren Cabaniss has always been a “career pageant girl.”
“I don’t know if that’s good or bad,” she said on stage Sunday night during finals of the National Sweetheart Pageant. “But I own it and I love it.”
While she has been a part of pageant life for so long, one experience does stand out amongst the rest and that was her first trip to Hoopeston in 2013 to compete for the title of Miss National Sweetheart.
Even though she didn’t go home with the title of Miss National Sweetheart then, her experiences in Hoopeston left an indelible imprint on her and when she had the chance to return to compete again, she leapt at it.
“I decided to come back simply because the first time I came it was one of the best pageant experiences that I had ever had,” she said.
Cabaniss said she, like the rest of the contestants had competed in a number of different systems, but the National Sweetheart Pageant was unique.
