MISSOURI - A teen from Liberal is crowned Miss Missouri Teen USA, giving new meaning to the phrase, like mother like daughter.
In 1990, Lori Bartlett, a small town Missouri girl was crowned Miss Missouri USA.
"I entered in November at 18 years old, not expecting to win, all four runner ups were back from last year. So, I went in just having fun, not expecting anything and I ended up winning and going on to Miss USA," Bartlett says looking back.
Little to her knowledge at the time, Bartlett's daughter would be in almost the exact same shoes when she turned 18. On Sunday, Chloe Bartlett was crowned Miss Missouri Teen USA for 2018.
"It was an indescribable moment. All the hard work had paid off. It was just such an honor," explains Chloe.
Her mom expresses, "I think it's still so surreal, we're just kinda in awe."
While royalty runs deep in the Bartlett family, Chloe didn't always do pageants.
"I wanted her to want to do pageants herself. I wanted this to be her desire, her love, because I know when, when kids see what they love to do, passion is there," says Lori.
One thing Chloe is most passionate about, is using her platform to help others.
"I really wanna work with children with chronic illnesses and people who have faced bullying. I really wanna teach students to stand up for one another and stop comparing yourself to these perfect images we see," she shares.
"I'm very proud of her. I'm excited to see what she's going to do with this because of her desire, her dream, her compassion and where it all will lead her."
Chloe will now begin training for Miss Teen USA, which will be held next year .
She will also be getting ready to graduate Cosmetology school in a little over a month in Webb City.
