Miss SA Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters will take part in the Miss Universe pageant. If the crown fits, bring it home, Demi-Leigh!
SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Reigning Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters from Sedgefield, will compete in the Miss Universe pageant, and her first princess, medical doctor Adè van Heerden from Herold's Bay will take part in the Miss World pageant in China. Both pageants take place in November.
The organisers, Sun International in collaboration with Cell C, took the decision to enter both pageants and hopefully soon the Garden Route will be the home of both the Miss Universe and the Miss World pageant crowns.
Nel-Peters hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Miss South Africa title holders who have triumphed on the international stage, Penny Coelen, Anneline Kriel, Margaret Gardiner and Rolene Strauss.
The 66th Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to take place on Sunday 26 November.
The venue must still be confirmed. Nel-Peters says, "I will not be able to visit the Garden Route before I leave for the competition in November, but hopefully I will be back in Sedgefield in December with the Miss Universe crown."
Van Heerden, who is a second lieutenant in the South African Military Health Services, says she is delighted to be representing South Africa on the Miss World stage.
"I could not have asked for a more incredible opportunity and am determined to give it my all and make our country proud. I look forward to sharing with the world my passion to protect and heal humankind."
