EVA Psychee Soroño Patalinjug, 24, from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, is contestant no. 32 at the 55th Binibining Pilipinas Pageant to be held at the Araneta Coliseum on March 18, 2018.

Eva obtained her degree in Nursing at the Cebu Doctors University in 2014 and passed the Nursing Board Examinations that same year. She is now an incoming sophomore law student at University of San Carlos.

“I originally planned to take up medicine,” Eva related during an informal dinner at Oasis at Gateway Mall recently. “But my family realized that we could not afford it so I took up law instead.”

“I must confess … my first year in law school … has helped me improve my communication skills and eventually, I became more assertive and confident.”

Standing at 5’8”, Eva has a string of beauty titles. She held the titles of Miss Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association and Miss Palarong Pambansa in 2008. In 2013, she placed second runner-up at the Miss Mandaue tilt. Then she joined the national finals of Mutya ng Pilipinas in 2014 and won the top crown of Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific International.

But the Miss Asia Pacific International tilt, which was in hiatus since 2006, did not push through and Eva was instead scheduled to vie for Top Model of the World in Egypt, which was also postponed several times.

After failed pageant assignments, Eva went on subdued profile until she signified her intention late last year to join Bb. Pilipinas.

“I was egged on by my friends and supporters and I believe I am ready to take on the challenge,” Eva said.

One of Eva’s staunchest supporters is philanthropist and pageant connoisseur Caloy Valera, who has known her since she was 14. “I have known Eva since she was a gangling teenager, and I see her in Cebu every year during Sinulog,” said Caloy, who is a devotee of Sto. Niño de Cebu. “I have known Eva to be passionate and driven at everything that she does and now that she is embarking on a new pageant journey, I know she will succeed because she has prepared long and well for this competition.”

Eva also has her own beauty line (Psychee Lashes) and is also actively involved with ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes), a non-governmental organization and a global network of civil society organizations exclusively dedicated to ending the commercial sexual exploitation of children, an advocacy she said she pursues passionately, with or without any beauty title.

She may have shifted gears on her career path, but one thing is sure – she is following in the footsteps of her dad Eduardo Patalinjug, incumbent Lapu-Lapu councilor, and her mom Liza, who heads the Public Attorneys’ Office in Lapu-Lapu City.

All the best on your Binibining Pilipinas journey, Eva!
