Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann on Wednesday said her experience as a courtside reporter is helping her navigate the world of beauty pageants.
Prior to winning the prestigious crown, Laura was a fixture on the sideline for Ateneo in the UAAP before moving to the Shakey's V-League in 2015.
"As a sportscaster I was on the sidelines watching the teams, so I saw what kinds of teams won, what kinds of teams lost, and what teams succeeded. And what I noticed about the teams that succeeded is that they are always very happy," she said during her send-off in Annabel's Restaurant in Quezon City.
Laura said she also found herself following the "heart strong" motto of the Ateneo volleyball team led by her friend Alyssa Valdez.
"They are always very happy, like my really good friend Alyssa Valdez from the volleyball team. Their motto is 'Happy happy heart strong.' So I think siguro nakuha ko din yun, medyo nahawa din ako. It served me very well," she said.
Laura will fly to China on October 20 where the Miss World 2017 coronation will be held.
"I want to be known as someone who gave her best in everything, and who was always positive and passionate," she said.
Kapuso actress Megan Young, who won the Miss World crown in 2013, also gave Laura advice on how to handle herself during the pageant.
"She was very helpful and I'm lucky that she's here to guide me. I think the most important advice she gave me was just to be myself and have fun, because that's what Miss World is about. That's what Miss World is about, it's about being genuine, it's not a one-night show, it's a comprehensive pageant, it's about being an ambassador,' Laura said.
"I just want to make sure I'm a good person and a good ambassador," she added. —JST, GMA News
