Miss America and Miss USA are not the same. Both are two different pageants, but of course two major pageants in America with much similarities featuring young women.

Miss America is the elder sibling that started in 1921 while the other pageant kicked off in 1952 and basically a breakaway from the original.

Yolande Betbeze, the winner of Miss America 1951 refused to pose in a swimsuit and this led the sponsor to get mad and pulling away their money. It was decided by the sponsors to form their own pageant and hence the Miss USA platform came into existence.

This means, and it is very clear, the Miss USA mainly focused into the Swimsuit part and in 1996 Donald Trump bought it and retained till 2015 following his racist remarks. He never bought Miss America.

Miss America contestants perform a talent while this is not required by the Miss USA girls. The age requirement for Miss America is between 17 and 24. To take part in the Miss USA the girls need to be between the age group of 18 and 27.

Winner of Miss America does not proceed or represent to any higher platform while Miss USA crowned girl represent the country in Miss Universe pageant.

In the Miss America system the title of girls goes like Miss Louisiana or Miss Alabama while in the other platform the girls are called as Miss Louisiana USA or Miss Alabama USA.
