HOWRAH teenager Kim Jones is preparing to conquer the world — Miss World, that is.
The hospitality worker and aspiring make-up artist is one of two Tasmanians to be named as finalists for the 2017 Miss World Australia competition, and will compete at the national event next week alongside Launceston school teacher Courtney Laskey.
Miss World Australia finalist Courtney Laskey, a school teacher from Launceston.
Ms Jones, who is 18, said she had never previously competed in a pageant, but after Miss World organisers contacted her via social media she decided to enter.
“I just thought ‘why not just give it a shot’?
“I’m really nervous, but I’m also really excited to be able to experience what it’s like going through the competition,” she said.
“I’ve had an amazing experience so far.”
A key part of the competition has been raising funds for Variety. Ms Jones has set up an Everyday Hero page, and hopes to raise at least $2000.
“It’s a whole beauty with a purpose initiative, so trying to raise awareness of people in need, and it’s all about intelligence and your personality,” Ms Jones said.
The national winner, announced in Melbourne on July 14, will represent Australia at the Miss World international final.
