Jessia’s Miss World quest starts in China

She is all set to represent Bangladesh in red, green and jute

The month-long quest of Miss World 2017 is officially underway. The greeting of 120 beauties, each representative of their country, took place on October 19 in Guangzhou. Jessia, alongside other contestants, is now spending busy time in rehearsals and auditions for the first segment of the competetion, “Dances of the World”.

“Dances of the World” has been the most popular segment of the Miss World competition since 2009 which is making a return this year after being withheld last year. The contestants will get the chance to represent their own cultures through dance. Jessia is all set to represent Bangladesh in red, green and jute.

The contestants are now staying at a five star hotel in Guangzhou. Miss World Limited chairperson Julia Morley’s invitation to Jessia mentioned that all of Jessia’s expenses in China will be sponsored by the show’s organisers. The Miss World Bangladesh 2017 winner will also be sightseeing alongside auditions and rehearsals.

Meanwhile, Miss World pageant’s official website has recently added Jessia’s profile to its list of contestants in 2017. Her profile revealed her as a student, 18 years of age, 172 cm tall. She is proficient in Bangla, Hindi and English. She aims to be a fashion designer, with a special interest in dance. She is a talented ramp dancer. She likes travelling, watching films and listening to music. Her favourite songs are “Hall of Fame” by The Script and “Careless Whisper” by George Michael. Her personal goal is to educate the parents.

The official inauguration of this year’s pageant will be held at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Sanya on October 31. The contestants will be officially welcomed in this ceremony. Over ten thousand audience will be present to witness the performance of over five hundred performers and the contestant parade.

Jessia will be a competing in Top Model, Talent, Multimedia, Sport, Beauty with a Purpose categories against others. After these qualifying rounds the top 40 contestants will compete head to head. The victorious top 20 will then participate in the final round of the competition. This year’s judges will be from USA, UK, Phillipines, Brazil, South Africa and Australia.

The Miss World finale will be held at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Sanya on November 18. The two and a half hour long event is to be hosted by Tim Vincent, Megan Young and Steve Douglas. As ever, the current Miss World (Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico) will crown her successor at the end of the event.

Bangladesh has not sent a representative to Miss World in 16 years (since 2001). Tabassum Ferdous Shaon, who participated in the Miss World 2001 in South Africa was the last Bangladeshi contestant. The Miss Bangladesh Contest was first organized in 1994, but the event did not attract national media attention. In 1994, Anika Taher became the very first contestant to represent Bangladesh at the beauty pageant Miss World 1994 held in Sun City, South Africa. Sonia Gazi (who was Miss Bangladesh 2000) was the first to receive media attention. Jessia is the eighth participant from Bangladesh to compete in Miss World pageant. Will “eight” turn out to be the magic number for Bangladesh? Only time will tell.
