Katarina Rodriguez talks about advocacies as beauty queen

MANILA – Katarina Rodriguez talked about her two advocacies in a video aimed at introducing her as a contestant of the Miss Intercontinental 2017 pageant.

The video, re-posted on the Pageant and News Facebook page on Tuesday, showed Rodriguez recalling the time she was invited to attend the fifth round of peace talks in the Netherlands.
“So usually as a beauty queen, you have to choose your advocacy when you win a crown, right? And it takes time to think about that. I’d like to say that the advocacy of peace chose me instead,” she said.
“I’m still an amateur toward what being a peace advocate really means, but it opened my eyes a lot,” she added.
Rodriguez also shared that she is supporting The Red Whistle, which she described as “a non-profit, non-government organization” that promotes HIV/AIDS awareness.
“We’ve gone around the Philippines, we’ve done different [HIV] testings. It’s a very strong campaign… Through the years, the number of people who joined the march has grown so much, like thousands… In a way, hopefully, it keeps more people aware,” she shared.
Rodriguez, who first joined cycle 2 of “Asia’s Next Top Model” and finished as a finalist, went on to stress the importance of giving back.
“I’m very blessed in my life, super blessed. I have a very loving family, I have all the resources I need. I have two legs that can run. I’m healthy. And as a Philosophy major, there’s one philosophy I learned, and that’s if you have enough and you have more, that’s when you give. And I definitely have more,” she said.
“I’ll definitely give my all in the international pageant, no doubt. I’m trying my best and hopefully I do win. But if I don’t, that’s okay already because the answer to me joining the pageant came along when I became a peace advocate.”
The Miss Intercontinental 2017 pageant will be held at the Sunrise Grand Select Crystal Bay in Egypt in January next year.
