Laura Lehmann assures: Miss World has integrity

MANILA – Before she leaves for China this week to prepare for Miss World 2017, Laura Lehmann assured Filipinos that the pageant she is about to join “has integrity.”

Lehmann made the statement as she acknowledged that many pageant fans are still “upset” over the results of last year’s Miss World.
Her predecessor, Catriona Gray, was seen as a strong contender for the crown, but she only finished in the Top 5.

“I wanted to use this time to let you guys know that… I know that because of what has happened in the past, a lot of pageant fans might be a little bit upset about Miss World,” Lehmann said during the sendoff party of Miss World Philippines for her and the country’s first-ever representative to the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant, Wynwyn Marquez, on Wednesday.
“I just want you to know that Miss World has integrity,” she continued. “They will choose a winner who is deserving, whoever that girl is. They are going to choose a girl who is sincere, who is right for the position, and who will give back to the people. I think it’s not in our place to think that this pageant has any negative insinuendos.”
Lehmann went on to promise that she will do her best in Miss World 2017, which will be held in Sanya, China on November 18.
“I’m going to do my best. We should all be positive about it. We should all be helpful [to each other], right? So, okay na ang Miss World? Wala nang issue?” she asked with a smile.
Lehmann is hoping to bring home the second Miss World crown for the Philippines. Megan Young, who competed in 2013, is so far the only Filipina who has been successful in winning the title.
A former courtside reporter for Ateneo de Manila University, Lehmann competed in Binibining Pilipinas 2014 and finished as a runner-up.
