QUEENSLAND’S Madeline Cowe is making bold plans for life without the title of Miss World Australia.
With her successor to be named at the 2017 national final on Friday, the Cairns-born beauty queen, who has also recently completed her law degree, will move to Sydney for the month of August to pursue opportunities in television and presenting.
“I’ve never really been able to give it a good go without having the pageant and my law degree and everything else on at the same time,” Cowe said.
“It’ll be nice if I put all my effort into it for six months to see what happens — It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”
The 24-year-old described her reign as Miss World Australia as the “most amazing year” of her life, but is set to miss the crowning ceremony in Melbourne this week, having flown to South Africa yesterday.
She was invited to join the Miss World Organisation’s delegation supporting the country’s Stop Hunger Now campaign, led by global ambassador Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, who is also the grandson of the late Nelson Mandela.
Having worked with Variety Children’s Charity for the past year, Cowe said that she was eager to continue working with charities and recently spent time with the Women’s Legal Service.
“I think in Australia, in particular, people relate pageants to negative things and by doing it and knowing what’s really involved, it’s so different,” she said.
“What people see on stage is a tiny bit of what is really involved in being Miss World Australia.”
