The people of India found it hard to contain their excitement on seeing Haryana girl Manushi Chhillar bag the prestigious Miss World crown in 2017.

What made them prouder was to find her using the coveted platform to advocate the cause of health and hygiene for women, a thought that was also awarded the Beauty with a Purpose title at the pageant.

Ever since the victory, Manushi has been busy initiating a dialogue about menstrual health and hygiene, a fruit of which was seen when Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana's Chief Minister, talked of providing free sanitary pads to girls in government schools.

The next big step, of course, was the 42-day Beauty with a Purpose tour, which recently began from India itself.

Only a while ago, Manushi had posted a picture of herself on social media, to announce the commencement of her much-awaited tour, through which she aimed at raising awareness about feminine hygiene.

''Finally after weeks of planning we will be starting the tour for my #beautywithapurpose project on Menstrual Hygiene. So excited to be reunited with my #MissWorld sisters!'' Manushi captioned her post.

Since then, Manushi has been touring across the country with the Miss World team, headed by Julia Morley, chairman of the Miss World Organisation, to promote the cause of menstrual hygiene, under a project called Shakti.

Manushi kick-started the first global edition of ''Feminine Hygiene Awareness'' in Hyderabad.

The journey continued to Kolkata where The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted what they called a special ''adda'' session on ''Feminine Hygiene.''

While in Kolkata, Manushi and her team also took out time to visit an NGO for slum children.

Here's also a glimpse of Manushi trying her hand at making low cost, biodegradable, sanitary pads from jute, at the India Jute Industries Research Association in Kolkata.

However, Manushi's tour has not been all work and no play. The team did find some time to relax at Dooars and Jaldapara, in West Bengal.

Recently, Manushi, along with the Miss World team, also met Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India, and Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs for India, to discuss her dream project.

Of course, there's still a lot to achieve, in terms of propagating the idea of menstrual health, but Manushi and the Miss World team's initiative is surely worthy of praise.
