THE new Miss Asia Pacific International and her court were crowned in a glittering finals show at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila that started at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and concluded at almost 2 the next morning.

Francielly Ouriques, 25, a model and entrepreneur from San Jose, Catarina, Brazil, bested 41 other delegates worldwide to win the coveted title and succeeded the Netherlands’ Tessa le Conge, last year’s winner.

During the final question round, Ouriques expounded on the relevance today of the pageant’s advocacy of fostering love, appreciation and unity.

Through an interpreter, Ouriques said, “I believe that we are all equal before God and all of us should be able to spread love, and spread good things among everybody. Respect, unity, and love are principles that my parents taught me and that everybody should foster that.”

Named as first runner-up was Acacia Walker, a 20-year-old student and staunch advocate of woman empowerment from Wellington, New Zealand.

Second runner-up was Valeria Cardona, 19, a journalism student from Tegucigalpa, Honduras who also competed at the 17th Miss Earth pageant in Manila last October.

Third runner-up was Morgan Doelwijt, 19, a sports, dance and travel enthusiast from Utrecht, Netherlands.

Fourth runner-up was Mutya ng Pilipinas Ilene Astrid de Vera, a 22-year-old Mass Communications graduate of the University of the Philippines-Cebu.

The finals were hosted by Rovilson Fernandez and Marc Nelson. Wellness guru Cory Quirino, fashion entrepreneur Mags Que, former supermodel Tweety de Leon Gonzales and LGBT icon Wilbert Tolentino were among the judges who selected the winners.
