Megan Young says not reading Miss World PH bet’s name on envelope was ‘the toughest’

Miss World 2013 Megan Young felt disappointed when she did not see the name of the country’s bet on the envelope she had to read aloud during this year’s pageant.

On a lengthy Instagram post on Sunday, Young said that she prayed for Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann to have her moment on the coronation night held in Sanya, China.

“I was upset but as they say, the show must go on,” Young added. She served as one of the pageant’s host for the fourth consecutive year.

The beauty queen further said that Lehmann’s plan of having a milk bank in the maternity ward of the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila was already an achievement.

“You have SAVED and CHANGED lives. I am so proud of you and your strength and positivity. Thank you for shining a bright light on the people around you, Lau,” Young said of Lehmann. 

Lehmann’s advocacy was one of the winners of the “Beauty With A Purpose” category of the pageant. She took to her own Instagram account that this was the reason why she joined the Miss World pageant.

In this video for the “Beauty With A Purpose” category, Lehmann shared that had she pursued becoming a doctor, she wants her place to be in the maternity ward. 

Lehmann managed to enter the top 40 of the Miss World pageant, but failed to make the cut on the succeeding rounds. Miss India Manushi Chhillar was crowned the winner.

Before becoming a beauty queen, Lehmann served as a courtside reporter representing Ateneo de Manila University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). JB
