Michele Gumabao slays first Q & A as Bb. Pilipinas candidate

" I consider my inexperience actually as an opportunity for me. It’s not a setback because I’m more open to people who want to teach me." -- Bb. Pilipinas 2018 candidate #19 Michele Gumabao (Photo courtesy of Bb. Pilipinas via Facebook)
Star volleybelle and Binibining Pilipinas 2018 hopeful Michele Gumabao wasted no time in proving that she’s indeed a worthy candidate for the crown, acing her introductory question and answer video.

In a Facebook clip posted by Bb. Pilipinas, Gumabao, speaking as candidate 19, is seen all dolled up, sharing her life story, her cause for joining the pageant, and how her volleyball roots have shaped her into the woman she is today.

The 25-year old admitted that she is new to the whole beauty pageant experience, but she also knows she can take this as a learning experience.

“I still play volleyball so I am admitting that I’m new to the pageant world, I am admitting my inexperience, but I have watched beauty pageants as did you guys, Binibining Pilipinas, Miss Universe, Miss International, all those international pageants, and I think I picked up quite a few things from them, but I consider my inexperience actually as an opportunity for me. It’s not a setback because I’m more open to people who want to teach me, coach me, who want to make me better than who I was when I started training," she said.

Gumabao lit up when she talked about her advocacy, the Michele Gumabao volleyball camp, which will center around her eponymous volleyball camp she started in 2012, that seeks to give children the potentially life-altering option of choosing volleyball as a passion.

“If these children, these kids who want to be professional volleyball players, if they just start young, if they start early, they can hone their talents and it won’t be that much harder for them, like what I went through in college,” Gumabao shared. “[It’s] For kids who want to learn volleyball, who want to experience competitive volleyball that they don’t get to experience everyday… we make them experience what its like to be a volleyball player.”

Gumabao also touched base on her family, specifically her parents, who have handed down important traits that helped her grow into the successful person she is now.

My dad was the one who taught me how to be a fighter, how to live your passion, how to fight for what you want and to maybe get up, everytime you get knocked down,” she shared. “My mom was the one who taught me how to be compassionate, how to love people, how to be sensitive. With that, I believe I’m a rather balanced individual.”

Lastly, Gumabao recounted her glory days with the De La Salle University Lady Spikers, especially the lessons she learned, and the winning mentality she has adapted into her own life.

“I learned how to be disciplined, I learned how to be passionate, I learned how to work hard and to not settle for anything less than a championship,” Gumabao recalled. “We won three championships that time of my life with La Salle, three consecutive championships that I really always look back to and smile and always cherish that memory with me.”

The former DLSU Lady Spiker’s Q & A has raked in over 353,000 views on Facebook, second only to one of the favorites, Cartriona Gray who currently has more than 543,000 views as of press time.
