The Miss Statesville Scholarship Program will celebrate its 20th annual competition with a special guest – Miss America.
Miss Arkansas Savvy Shields was crowned Miss America in September and will be on hand to help crown the new Miss Statesville on Aug. 19 in Mac Gray Auditorium at Statesville High School.
Shields will guest emcee during portions of the pageant, according to Executive Director Ryan Pegarsch.
“We are thrilled to have Miss America coming to Statesville for our competition and to celebrate the 20 years of the Miss Statesville Scholarship Program,” he said. “She is a class act and you do not want to miss out on this opportunity.”
The public is invited to join Miss America for a meet-and-greet breakfast the morning of the event for $25. A ticket to the breakfast and the pageant is $35. Pegarsch said attending the breakfast is the only way to guarantee a picture and autograph with Miss America. The breakfast will be at the Statesville Country Club.
The pageant will consist of four phases: talent, interview, lifestyle and fitness and evening gown with an on-stage question. Each contestant will also discuss her chosen platform during the event.
The winner will receive $2,500 in scholarship funds. Another $1,350 will be awarded to preliminary winners.
Early-bird tickets to the pageant are $15 for adults and $10 for school-aged children. At the door, prices will increase to $20 for adults and $15 for school-aged children. Programs will be $5 apiece at the door.
Other distinguished guests include Miss North Carolina Victoria Huggins, Miss North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen Marissa Garrison and several former Miss Statesvilles.
The competition starts 7 p.m.
