JESSICA PROCTER
Will the next Miss America have a Paulding County connection?
Jessica Procter of Tuscaloosa, Ala., was recently crowned Miss Alabama 2017. She will now represent her state in the upcoming Miss America competition.
Procter is the 21-year-old daughter of Doff and Laurel (Buehler) Procter of Tuscaloosa and the granddaughter of former Paulding resident Marilyn (Moore) Buehler and the late Lec Buehler. Her great-uncle and aunt are Jack and Marie Moore of Paulding.
Before being crowned as Miss Alabama, Proctor also won the Catherine Crosby Long Award for Community Service for her personal platform, “Step Up To The Plate,” a partnership with the West Alabama Food Bank to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger and food insecurity.
Procter is a junior at the University of Alabama majoring in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in psychology.
Her parents are both professional opera performers; Doff directs the Alabama Choir School, where Laurel is an administrator and artist-in-residence.
The Miss America pageant will be broadcast Sunday, Sept. 10 on the ABC network.
