September not only marks the end of summer, but the beginning of Miss America at the shore. We talk about all things Miss America, or close to it, on the latest episode of “-30-,” The Press of Atlantic City’s television show, which airs 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Stockton University’s channel.

Here’s the lineup for this week’s show:

• Each year the Miss America competition gets a bit older, and the audience a bit younger. Tonight we examine just how relevant the pageant is with today’s millenials and discuss some of the topics new to Americans and new to the Miss America organization. We’ve gathered this year’s Press of Atlantic City’s reporting team covering the competition to explore Miss America in today’s world.

• Preparation goes into every single aspect of the Miss America pageant — far beyond what’s required to be ready for the talent or Q&A portion of the competition. In the pageant world, there’s a right way to walk, talk and even stand. We turned to Dr. Joy Jones-Carmack, a professor at Stockton University and pageant coach, to show us what it takes to move like Miss America.

• When you take a look at this year’s Miss New Jersey a few things stand out. First, Kaitlyn Schoeffel is from right here in South Jersey, Egg Harbor Township. It took her six tries to win the crown. And her mom also competed in the Miss America. So there was plenty to talk about when Press reporters Lauren Carrol and John DeRosier sat down with Schoeffel to find out how she’s getting ready for her big night in Boardwalk Hall.

• Each year the Miss’d American organization sends out a call for contestants: We are looking for a few good men who like to dress as women! The winner of this annual drag pageant meant to spoof its big sister, gets $5,000 and the audience gets a night to remember. Host Pamela Dollak sat down with this year’s reigning Miss’d America to find out what it’s like for a man doing a woman’s job.

Each week, “-30-” explores the stories behind the region’s major events and newsmakers.

The show is produced by Press staffers working with Stockton students and airs on Stockton’s educa tional access channel 9. Most residents of Atlantic County can watch channel 9 through Comcast cable. Segments can be watched anytime at PressofAC.com/30.

New episodes run each Thursday and are re-aired at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 5 p.m. Tuesdays.
