BODY curves and toned figures ruled the Miss Earth 2017 swimsuit fashion and resort wear competition held Tuesday at the LausGroup Event Centre in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Over 25 pageant hopefuls representing different countries in the world rocked Pampanga and wowed the judges and thousands of guests as they paraded in their two-piece and colorful resorts wear. After showing off their lean physique, the stunning ladies then shared each of their relevant advocacies in promoting the preservation and protection of Mother Earth. The advocate beauty queens, who belong to the Group 1, were part of the 86-candidate entourage vying for one of the most prestigious title in the international arena.

Emerging as the winner and bagging the gold medal was 25-year-old Miss Venezuela Ninoska Vasquez, whose advocacy is to “increase the youth’s environmental awareness and encourage their participation in various issues concerning the environment.” Aside from Vaszquez, Miss Netherlands Faith Gennevieve Zawadi Landman and Miss Poland Dominika Szymanska were also hailed winners as they grabbed the silver medal. It’s also a tie for Miss Honduras Valeria Cardona and Miss Wales Sophie Bettridge as they finish off with a bronze medal.

The LausGroup of Companies (LGC), one of the chosen partners of Miss Earth International 2017, then awarded Miss Ecuador Lessie Giler Sanches as Miss Laus Group Lady. Prior to the preliminary competition, the candidates representing Australia, Austria, Crimea, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Ethiopia, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Thailand, Uganda, US Virgin Islands, Venezuela and Wales participated in a tree-planting activity at the LausGroup Complex. Amid the scorching heat, the candidates were all energetic and enthusiastic as they planted Supa plant (herbal plant) and Ipil tree (flowering tree) along the Laus Group Boulevard.

The tree planting activity is part of the pageant's main objective of promoting the preservation of the environment through propagation of trees and plants. Aside from the said activity, the candidates also visited LausAutoGroup dealerships Ford Pampanga, Kia Pampanga and Chevrolet Pampanga, where they were toured around and given an overview of the automotive business. After a worthwhile visit at the LausGroup Complex, the Laus family then warmly welcomed the candidates with a sumptuous lunch at the Laus residence in San Fernando. LGC Chief Operating Officer Lisette Laus-Velasco noted that serving Filipino and Kapampangan dishes is one way the family showed the true hospitality of the Kapampangans through delectable and filling meals. She added that the LausGroup takes pride and honor in being the partner of the prestigious Miss Earth 2017. "We feel very honored and delighted to be hosting Miss Earth International 2017 in Pampanga.

The reason why we supported them is because we share the same mission and commitment to preserve and protect our environment as we only have one earth," she said. Being the LausGroup's first year of hosting, Laus-Velasco said the company is looking forward to more partnerships in the future. Now on its 17th year, Miss Earth continues to build its reputation as a beauty competition with a cause, whose titleholders work together to help save the environment. The pageant’s coronation night is set on November 4 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Manila. Last year’s winner, Katherine Espin of Ecuador, will be handling her crown to one of the 86 candidates competing this year. (Erika Mariel Gines with Princess Clea Arcellaz)
