A YOUNG Lara woman scouted by a modelling agency after she was tagged in a Facebook photo has been crowned Miss International Australia.
Amber Dew emerged victorious from the national finals of the world’s fourth-largest pageant this month — earning the opportunity to represent her country in Japan.
The ecstatic 21-year-old told the Geelong Advertiser she had no clue she would take out the top prize.
“It was all such a shock, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“It’s been so crazy — but my family is so proud of me.”
Ms Dew, a marketing student at Deakin University, will now showcase her elegance against more than 80 women from across the world.
She will compete for a $550,000 tiara.
Her journey began when she was recognised by a modelling firm on social media.
The then-teenager set off to Taiwan to represent Australia in Miss Charity Queen.
“After that experience I fell in love with pageants and became a freelance model and now often judge pageants,” she said.
“I did literally every event I could I think of.”
Through a series of fundraising efforts, Ms Dew raised hundreds of dollars for ovarian cancer foundation Teal Wings of Hope.
