Miss Liberia, Wokie Dolo, is set to hold her first fundraising event geared towards raising money to support her charity effort.

The program, dubbed the ‘Endowment funds for Miss Liberia,’ comes at a time when the queen is not getting the needed government support and has ran out of funds – which she used for charity purposes.

Miss Dolo, who just returned from the Miss World pageant in China, noted that she is currently in need of funds to carry out many activities intended to impact lives.

“Some of these charity activities I intend to undertake include paying of children’s school fees and providing skills training for adolescent girls.

“School attendance and quality learning remain a challenge for millions of children in Liberia who don’t have the opportunity to go to school. These children need education to get prepared for tomorrow’s job market,” Miss Liberia said. “So since their parents don’t have the funds now, I think I need to step in. This is why I’m raising this fund. I don’t have cash in savings to undertake these tasks.”

She added that the aim of the fundraiser is to raise US$50,000, and called on the public to attend or buy tickets to support this noble cause.

Miss Wokie Dolo, since being crowned Miss Liberia, has carried out several initiatives that have helped impact the lives of hundreds of women and children.

Her lifesaving skill empowerment for women teaches them basic business entrepreneurial skills intended to make them better business leaders in the future.

“I need everybody to come out and support this initiative. We all need to help these children overcome future hardships by providing them education and lifesaving career, most especially for those that are out of school.

“I believe that educating those who don’t have the means and empowering women with lifesaving skills are the strongest weapons available to change any society for the better.

“The need for funding is crucial because despite the significant progress I have made over the last few months, when all children have access to quality education and women are empowered, they will bring about lots of opportunities that will influence generations to come,” Miss Wokie Dolo said.

All proceeds from ticket sales, which starts at US$50, will go directly to an endowment fund. Although Miss Liberia did not confirm this officially, she said she will be expecting beauty queens from five African countries and a host of local celebrities to thrill those attending the event.

Ticket sales will start early next week at different locations across the country. The program is scheduled for December 16. The program will be held at the Monrovia City Hall.
