Miss Massachusetts Jillian Zucco chalked up her first win during the 2018 Miss America pageant preliminaries on Thursday night when she was awarded a $5,000 science scholarship.
The Mattapoisett resident was given a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics scholarship from the Miss America program. It is meant for contestant in a STEM-based educational field.
She was also the second runner-up in the Children's Miracle Network's "Miracle Maker Award." The award honors contestants who have raised the most money for the charity. Zucco has raised over $25,000 for the program and earned an additional $2,000 scholarship.
Zucco, a telemetry nurse, graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth's nursing program with honors.
The 97th annual Miss America pageant airs live from Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
"The Bachelor's" Chris Harrison and ESPN personality Sage Steele will be hosting the 2018 Miss America competition.
Tara Lipinski, Thomas Rhett, Jordin Sparks, Maria Menounos, Jess Cagle, Molly Sims, and former Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri will serve as celebrity judges.
