One of 51 Miss America hopefuls, Miss Michigan 2017 Heather Kendrick arrived in Atlantic City on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
The next Miss America will be crowned inside Boardwalk Hall on Sunday, Sept. 10, live on ABC at 9 p.m.

Miss America arrival ceremony
The traditional Miss America arrival ceremony took place on Wednesday, Aug. 30, reports NJ.com. The contestants - with "dreams as big as their smiles" - introduced themselves and their platforms, and then walked down a runway, posing for photos at the end.
Reigning Miss America Savvy Shields, of Arkansas, took the stage after the contestants to reflect on her year of service, which included a stop in Muskegon, Mich., to encourage Miss Michigan contestants at pageant orientation in March.

The pageant
Preliminaries will take place Wednesday, Sept. 6-Friday, Sept. 8. Each contestant competes in interview, evening gown, talent, swimsuit and on-stage question.
Finalists will be named at the beginning of the final night, Sunday, Sept. 10. Each finalist then has one last chance to prove her crown-worthiness by competing again in evening gown, talent, swimsuit and on-stage question.
At the end of Sunday evening's events, there will be a new Miss America.

Voting for "America's Choice" is open through 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5. The contestant with the most votes will be guaranteed a spot among the top 15.
