Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters met children at soup kitchen in Johannesburg, handing out meals in a feel-good charity event. However, she wore gloves while meeting the orphans. Once the pictures from the event were posted on internet, Demi-Leigh faced wrath from many of her followers for the act. They accused her of wearing gloves to avoid touching black kids. The hashtag #MissSAChallenge went viral as thousands of South Africans posted photos poking fun of the beauty queen. Some posted photos of themselves wearing gloves making a drink, reading a book, typing at desk, etc.

Was at work minding my own business but then i remembered. Hygiene 1st

The community centre where the activity took place quickly defended Demi-Leigh saying that all the staff members wore gloves during food preparation and it was mandatory. Demi-Leigh posted a video stating: “We were handing out food to young kids and that was the only intention with wearing the gloves. It was purely to be as hygienic as possible. I really feel like my intention were really misunderstood but I would like to apologise if I offended anyone.”

To everyone asking about the gloves, I truly hope that you'll hear my heart and understand that it came from a place of wanting to do good.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is a favorite at Miss Universe and Miss World pageants and she needs the support of her countrymen. It is nice to see her positively coming out even after facing such negativity on the internet.
