Beauty queen to invest prize money in education

HARARE – Newly crowned Miss World Zimbabwe 2017 Chiedza Mhosva says she will invest her prize money of $20,000 in her education.

“At this point I want to pursue my education so I will use the money to pay for my tuition fees,” she said soon after landing the coveted title at the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Course.
The 22-year-old film and acting student from the University of Cape Town pulled the rug from under the 15 other contestants drawn from Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces.

Mhosva won fabulous prizes including a brand spanking new car and a chance to fly the Zimbabwean flag at the Miss World pageant scheduled for China later in the year.
The beauty oozed cool confidence and her response to the question was on point such that the judges admitted she won by unanimous decision.

Her first princess Evelyn Njelele (23) walked away with $10,000 while Kundai Claire Somerai (21) an accounting student at the University of Zimbabwe was named second princess.

For her efforts Somerai walked away with $5,000.
Headline sponsors – Big Time Strategic Group also gave the 16 contestants $1,000 each for participating in the beauty pageant.

A prize handover ceremony will be held in two weeks’ time in Harare according to the South Africa based Justice Maphosa, the chief executive of Big Time Strategic Group.
He also pledged to continue partnering the Miss World Zimbabwe Trust in organizing the pageant.

Performances on the night were from Ringo Madlingozi who appealed to the majority of the mature listeners in the audience as well as sungura star Alick Macheso.
Marry Chiwenga, the Miss World Zimbabwe Trust patron, hailed the late Kiki Divaris, her predecessor for her efforts in empowering the girl child.
This year’s Miss World Zimbabwe paid tribute to Divaris through the theme: “Celebrating Beauty Through the Eyes of Our late Icon Kiki Divaris.”
