MUTYA ng Pilipinas titlist Jannie Loudette Vicencio Alipo-on of Navotas City was crowned as the 20th Miss Tourism International in glittering ceremonies at the Sunway Resort Hotel in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia on Wednesday night after besting a field of 48 delegates worldwide.

Jannie, 25, a Business Management graduate of De La Salle College of St. Benilde, was crowned by Ariel Pearse of New Zealand, last year’s winner.

“Thank you, Malaysia for making my dream come true. It has been my dream to be crowned as a queen from the age of 18,” Jannie told the media after the event.

Jannie is the fourth Filipina to emerge as winner in the pageant after Peachy Manzano in 2000, the late Rizzini Alexis Gomez in 2012 and Angeli Dione Gomez in 2013.

Designers Jontie Martinez and Nickky Martinez of Galatea Fashions were in Malaysia to support and cheer for Jannie. Jontie is Alipo-on’s mentor-discoverer from the time she won as Miss Navotas in 2011.

Jannie won her ticket to Malaysia after she was crowned as Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International 2017 at the national tilt last August; she won the tilt on her second consecutive attempt at the annual search.

Jannie walked away with a scholarship worth RM60,000 from Lim Kok Wing University of Creative Technology, RM10,000 cash, a trophy and other prizes.

Her court of honor also received subsidiary titles: Maja Aleksandra Sieron of Poland was crowned as Miss Tourism Metropolitan International; Lois Merry Tengel of Indonesia was Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International; Diana Hills of Australia was Miss Tourism Global; Julia Do Vale Horta of Brazil was Dreamgirl of the Year International; and Kamolrut Tanon of Thailand was Miss South East Asia Tourism Ambassadress.

The Miss Tourism International Pageant was initiated by Chinese-Malaysian impresario Tan Sri Danny Ooi in 1994; it is now an annual event in Malaysia with the support of Tourism Ministry of Malaysia.

The pageants are being co-produced by Prime Events Productions Philippines Foundation Inc. (PEPPS) headed by Carlo Morris Galang and the Miss Tourism Ambassador Organization headed by its founder and CEO Justin Tran and president Ben Nguyen.

The events kicked off last weekend with a 2-day fashion event featuring the delegates modeling the collections of Dak Bonite, Mark dela Peña, Russell Yasay, Sonnyboy Mindo, Le Ngok Lam, Jacob Casem and Yto Gonzaga.
