My Time: Meade High graduate named Miss U.S. International 2017

Shanel James, daughter of Severn residents Jasper and Jeanette James, was crowned Miss U.S. International 2017 at the conclusion of the pageant held June 22 in Orlando, Florida.

She will now represent the United States at the 2017 Miss International beauty pageant to be held in Japan in November.

James was crowned by last year's U.S. winner and Miss International 2016 fourth runner-up Kaitryana Leinbach.

James graduated from Meade High School in 2008 and is a 2012 graduate of Howard University. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and is employed with IBM.
