On The Theme ‘Climate Change Action To Sustain Our Islands’, Nine Pacific Beauties Gathered For The First Time In Nadi, Fiji, Last Week To Begin The 31st Annual Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.

On the theme ‘climate change action to sustain our Islands’, nine Pacific beauties gathered for the first time in Nadi, Fiji, last week to begin the 31st annual Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.

The theme reflects the continuing environmental challenges faced by the Pacific Islands due to the harsh effects of climate change, and the Pacific people’s resilience and unity to protect its environment from climate change.

During the gathering, the contestants picked their order of appearance and their respective topics for their pre-pageant interviews.

The participants were addressed by the executive director of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant and chief executive officer of the Samoa Tourism Authority, Papali’i Sonja Hunter.

“The Miss Pacific Islands Pageant was established in 1985 to foster, expand knowledge and share intelligence and talents of our young Pacific ladies,” said Ms Hunter.

She also said the Miss Pacific Islands has always been known as a “pageant with a difference,” Ms Hunter said.

“The pageant is an opportunity to encourage the Pacific Islands, its diverse cultures, the beauty of its interesting holiday destinations, through the cleverly choreographed representation, by talented and intelligent contestants, trained by the best Pacific fashion houses, artists and artisans, chaperones, mothers and kinfolk of the Pacific Island nations.”

The pageant also transcends the unity between the Pacific Islands with regards to their unique values which encompass the respect given to their women, adding strength and nurturing the fusion between the respective Pacific cultures.

Ms Hunter acknowledged the reigning Miss Pacific Islands, Anne Dunn, for her hard work in the past twelve months and congratulated her for completing her bachelor of law and becoming a legal counselor.

She acknowledged the support and contribution of the Miss Pacific islands Pageant board of directors and host countries over the past 31 years.

The competition will be from Wednesday to Saturday at the Prince Charles Park.
