Rachel Peters admits: I'll be sad to hand over the crown

Miss Universe-Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters is in a net of emotions as she prepares to relinquish her crown to her successor on March 18.

"I'm both excited and sad," said Peters on the sidelines of her charity work Friday at Bahay Aruga, a halfway house for children cancer patients.

Part of the ambivalence stems from the excitement -- and uncertainty -- when it comes to career options after her reign. A showbiz career beckons, but she is not about to follow the lead of erstwhile Binibining Pilipinas queens who have turned vampires in "La Luna Sangre".

Hosting is more her cup of tea, said Peters, who is also considering creating a blog. She may also be tapped as an international and local tourism ambassador for Camarines Sur, where she hails from.

But the more fulfilling part is capping her reign with charity work.
Together with garments firm Jag, a long-time Binibining Pilipinas sponsor, Peters wants to spread wider awareness for Bahay Aruga.

While they undergo chemotherapy and treatment in Manila, many of the patients here are from provinces and spend a great deal travelling to the capital. Two of the children Peters met at the facility tore her heart. They are both from Camarines Sur.

Peters also went on Skype to connect with the nuns of Asilo de Molo, who care for the sick and elderly to whom she made a donation on behalf of the Binibining Pilipinas organization and Jag. She hopes to personally visit the facility.

On the topic of the upcoming Binibining Pilipinas pageant, Peters has not singled out a particular bet as a potential winner. But she said she hopes the charitable vision of the organization will be carried on by the new batch of beauties.
