Yangon-based chef and restauranteur Sao Yoon Waddy Oo was crowned Miss Myanmar International on Tuesday after beating out 19 other women for the title. She will now go on to compete in the 2017 Miss International pageant in Tokyo later this year.

The new pageant queen’s Facebook page describes her as originally from Yangon and as the owner of the Myit Phyar Shwe restaurant and KTV bar in Aungban, Shan State. She als describes herself as a “pretty chef.”

Sao Yoon Waddy Oo, also known as “Contestant Number 20,” was crowned by Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa, who flew in from the Philippines for the occasion.

Burma first participated in the Miss International pageant in 1961, when it was held in Long Beach, California. In 1962, the pageant was banned from the country by General Ne Win’s government, and Myanmar did not compete again until 2012.

Miss International, along with Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss Earth, is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants, which are the known world’s most coveted international beauty titles.

Contestants are expected to serve as “Ambassadors of Peace and Beauty,” demonstrating tenderness, benevolence, friendship, beauty, intelligence, ability to take action, and, most importantly, a great international sensibility. The ultimate goal of the Miss International beauty pageant is to promote world peace, goodwill, and understanding, according to the pageant’s website.

Congratulations, Sao Yoon Waddy Oo!
