A 17-year-old Kansas City native has been crowned the newest Miss Teen USA, beating out 51 contestants, from every U.S. state and the District of Columbia.
Miss Missouri Sophia Dominguez-Heithoff was awarded the crown on Saturday at the Phoenix Symphony Hall in Arizona, winning a $10,000 scholarship and $5,000 in cash.
She was joined on the stage by the other five finalists of the competition, including Miss Oregon Vanessa Matheson, Miss Nevada Alexis Smith, Miss California Jaanu Patel, and Miss Indiana Paige Robinson.

Heidi Powell and Erin Lim hosted the competition with a special performance by Jorge Blanco, with contestants competing in three categories: active wear, evening gown and interview.
During the competition, Sophia impressed the judges with her organization Community and Scholars Cooperatively (CASC), which helps engage teenagers in community service.
In the Q&A portion of the pageant she also revealed that she grew up with a family member with Down syndrome who inspired her to join various organizations dedicated to helping the disabled, including Best Buddies, The Down Syndrome Guild, and Vocational Services, Inc.

'It's important to remember that as Miss Teen USA, you are a role model,' she said during the Q&A.
'I would love to be the Miss Teen USA that could accept everyone, especially for their differences.'
She also lobbied the Missouri legislature to pass a law aimed at helping adults with developmental disabilities during her time as a Girl Scout.
Her work saw her awarded the the Gold Award, which is the most prestigious accolade in the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Big winner Sophia graduated this spring a year early from her high school and will be starting her undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas next fall.
She intends to pursue a degree in Political Science and Ethics and plans to go to law school, with hopes to go on to a career in justice.
Sophia will be taking over the title from Miss Teen USA Karlie Hay, 19, who caused controversy after admitting to having used the n-word on Twitter. Karlie crowned Sophia herself at the Saturday ceremony.
As a part of her win, Sophia has gained a scholarship for continued education as well as a plethora of clothing and beauty products and a modelling portfolio shot by professional photographers.
