Sidal to stand up against climate change

Update: 1:05PM ELIZABETH Tanya Sidal hopes to inspire young people to stand up against climate change.

The 23-year-old from Suva who is one of the six contestants vying for the Miss Asia Pacific Fiji crown said the pageant experience had so far been overwhelming as she had come to know of issues that Fijians deal with on a daily basis.

She said it was fascinating to witness how Fijian people in villagers were still intact with their communal ways and division of labor as she believed that was a practice that was slowly disappearing in our urban communities.

"What I hope to change in the course of this pageant is the mindset of people and what they can possibly do to combat the effects of climate change in our nation," she said.

The crowning night to determine who will represent Fiji to the Miss Asia Pacific International will take place on September 9.

Miss Fiji to the Miss Asia Pacific International Pageant 2017 will compete with 50 other country representatives.

Fiji is rejoining the Miss Asia Pacific International Pageant after a lapse of 29 years.
