The Miss Supranational 2017 competition is only a few hours away and soon we'll know who's the titleholder this year. Indians have been waiting to see their very own Sikkim girl Peden Ongmu Namgyal being crowned as the winner on the main stage. If she wins, Peden won't be the only Indian to have bagged the title. So far, two Indian girls- Srinidhi Shetty and Asha Bhat – have worn the winner's crown at the event in different years.
In 2014, Asha bagged the Miss Supranational title and became the first Indian to do so. She also won the special award for Best In Talent at the pageant. She was crowned Miss Supranational 2014 by the outgoing titleholder Miss Supranational 2013, Mutya Johanna Datul from Philippines. During her one-year tenure with Miss Supranational, Asha who lives in Mumbai and runs her own NGO named the Astra Foundation, visited countries like Thailand, Myanmar, Hungary, Mauritius and China.
India saw its second winner last year when Srinidhi was crowned Miss Supranational 2016 by 2015 titleholder Stephania Stegman of Paraguay. She also won three subtitles for her smile, body and her photogenic face. She also won the title of Miss Supranational Asia and Oceania 2016, and thereby preceded her successor Aafreen Rachel Vaz who was crowned Miss Supranational Asia and Oceania 2015. During her one year as the titleholder, Srinidhi travelled to countries like France, Japan, Singapore and Thailand.
Now, people are waiting to watch Peden impress the judges and getting the crown back for India. The 22-year-old will compete with more than 80 contestants at the event , which will be held in Poland's Spa Resort of Krynica- Zdroj on December 1.
