Friends of a Moore woman who was injured in an accident last week in Georgia that claimed the life of her boyfriend said Sunday they are wishing her a speedy recovery.

Last Thursday, Nov. 30, Emily Yarbrough was in a vehicle driven by her boyfriend, Taylor Evans, of Easley, when it collided with the front of a tractor trailer on Interstate 85 near Athens, Ga, according to multiple news reports. The vehicle overturned several times.

Evans, 22, succumbed to his injuries the next day, Friday, while Yarbrough, 23, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries to her back and hand, according to reports.

Yarbrough is the Miss Upstate representative for the Miss South Carolina USA organization.

An accident report from the Geirgia State Patrol was not available Sunday.

“She and her boyfriend were on their way to a concert and were involved in a very tragic accident,” Eddie Payne, director of GC Pageants in Seneca, which produces the Miss SC USA pageant, said Sunday.

“We adore her and wish her a speedy recovery,” Payne said.

GC Pageants posted this message on its Facebook page:

“We have known Emily for years — just spent time with her two weeks ago in Charleston when she represented the Upstate and placed in the Top 10. We have seen her transform into an amazing young woman. We are sending our love and prayers to Emily, Taylor and their families.”

Dozens of friends and acquaintenances also posted get-well wishes on Facebook.

Yarbrough is a recent Clemson graduate with a degree in marketing and a minor in fine arts and graduated from Byrnes High School in 2012. She owns an art studio called Grace and Lions.

Payne said he spoke with Yarbrough’s mother, Amy Nunnery, earlier Sunday, who told him Amy is now healing from her injuries.

Nunnery could not be reached Sunday.

A Facebook post Saturday from Nunnery, stated, “Emily will remain in hospital for at least another day. Her body will heal but the loss of her best friend will be everlasting. Taylor is an exceptional young man who loved my daughter and told her in every way. We so appreciate the love, prayers and support from everyone and just ask that you all continue to pray for all families/people involved.”

Tonya Smarr of Great Falls, S.C., whose daughter Emilee Smarr is Miss Lake Wateree and competed against Yarbrough, said she learned of the accident via Facebook.

“We were heartbroken,” Tonya Smarr said. “She is a very sweet, sweet girl. We will continue to pray for her in recovery.”

Dozens of Evans’ friends also posted messages on Facebook:

“Taylor was a soldier,” one message stated. “He chose a life in the service of his country as a member of the South Carolina National Guard — providing relief in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. Taylor was a man of God with conviction. He set the example for the rest of us. Taylor is my friend. And I’ll miss him like hell. Rest easy, brother.”
