Voting open for Miss America competition

NEW JERSEY — Fans now have the chance to support Miss North Carolina Victoria Huggins in the America’s Choice vote for the 2018 Miss America Competition.

To vote, go online to missamerica.org/vote. Voting will be open until the 2018 Miss America Competition airs on Sept. 10. Preliminary competition for the pageant, which will take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, will be Sept. 6, 7, and 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. The final night of competition will be aired on ABC at 9 p.m.

The contestants are divided into three groups, Mu Group, Alpha Group and Sigma Group. The groups determine what segment each contestant does on each day. The categories are interview, talent, on-stage question and swimsuit/evening wear.

Huggins, a St. Pauls native, is in the Alpha Group. She will be doing the interview on Sept. 6, talent on Sept. 7, on-stage question on Sept. 8 and the swimsuit/evening wear will be on Sept. 9.

Tickets are available on Ticket Master, ranging in price from $57 to $197.

Huggins, competing as Miss Greater Sampson County, won the Miss North Carolina title on June 24 over 43 other women vying for the crown.

The 23-year-old daughter of Beverly and Terrell Huggins was crowned in the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts by the 2016 Miss North Carolina McKenzie Faggart. The new Miss North Carolina received a $20,000 scholarship and the opportunity to represent North Carolina in the Miss America Pageant.
