THREE Filipina ambassadors of beauty will attempt to win their international pageants in different parts of the world this weekend.

Tomorrow night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, the 17th Miss Earth and her court of “elements” will be crowned from among 86 lovely delegates worldwide who were tagged this year as “Heroines Fighting Climate Change.”

After a month-long flurry of activities, events and subsidiary competitions, we have picked 6 ladies who are most likely to advance to the finals: Miss Philippines Karen Santos Ibasco, 26, a medical physicist from Manila; Miss Netherlands Faith Landman, 20, a model from Flevoland; Miss Thailand Paweensuda Drouin, 23, a multi-racial kinesiologist an radio DJ from Bangkok who was raised in Canada; Miss Venezuela Ninoska Vasquez, 25, a psychologist from Barquisimeto; Miss Panama Erika Parker, 23, a crane controller from Puerto Escondido; and Miss Puerto Rico Karla Aponte, 19, a Finance student from San Juan.

The Philippines has won the coveted title thrice: in 2008, 2014 and 2015; while Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela have each won twice.

The winner will succeed current titleholder Katherine Espin from Ecuador.

American journalist James Deakin will host the finals which will be aired live on Fox Life (the entertainment channel of FOX Network, the biggest cable television network in Asia and the Middle East), and other networks of participating countries with live streaming on the official Facebook page of Miss Earth, and by Rappler.

This will also be telecast nationwide on ABS-CBN, November 5 at 10 a.m. on The Filipino Channel.

In Santa Cruz, Bolivia, also tomorrow night (Sunday morning PH time), Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Laxamana Marquez is very much on track to win the coveted Reina Hispanoamericana title for 2017.

After landing in the Top 3 for traditional costume and making it to the Top 5 in sports challenge, Winwyn has also made it to the Top 3 of Miss Silhouette Philips and placed second for Miss Personality. She also won a special sponsor prize as Miss Ipanema for the popular beach sandals brand.

Winwyn is actually the first Asian delegate to the pageant that started as Miss Sudamerica in 1991 and eventually expanded beginning in 2004, accepting delegates outside the boundaries of South America.

The daughter of actor-politicians Alma Moreno and Joey Marquez, Winwyn earned the ticket to Bolivia after winning the Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas title at the Miss World Philippines 2017 pageant last September.
